With 16 songs and over 70 minutes
of music you'd think you'd have a lot of good songs to listen to, but, with
UYI I that isn't in the case. At least with me it isn't. The album starts out
with "Right Next Door To Hell", a song I could see on Appetite. This
song gave me fault hopes for most of this album. When I first heard it I thought
"Hell yeah! This album fucking rocks!" But then I got to track 2.
Track 2, Dust N' Bones, is a real nose dive for this album.
"RNDTH" was an asskicker, with "Dust N' Bones" you get a
slow moving bluesy song sung by Izzy. Complete snorefest. It doesn't get much
better from there either. Next up is the cover of "Live And Let Die"...
Uh... on track 4. After that we get "Don't Cry", one of my favorite
songs from the band. Yes, one of their ballads is one of my favorite songs!
But after that we hit a real dead spot on the album. After that is the filler track "Perfect Crime" It could have been a good song if some thought actually went behind it. Then there is the joke song "You Ain't The First", it's a fairly amusing song but the 2nd part of the song just drags on so the only good part is the first 1:20 of the song or so. After that we get "Bad Obsession" and "Back Off Bitch". These 2 songs had potential but just missed the mark. I'm not sure if it was all the extra crap added to "Bad Obsession" that made me want to skip over it.. actually ... it was. Get that stupid piano out of the song!!! Then there is "Back Off Bitch" the song itself is fine, it's the dry production that does it in. If the sound was more raw this would be a highlight of the album.
After that it is the stupid "Double Talkin' Jive" before we get to the epic "November Rain" and I won't talk about that song because everyone knows that song. It's big, epic and the last minute rocks. After that it's a mixed bag of mediocre to OK with the long exception of "Coma", but "Coma" is a very long song (over 10 minutes), but it just has this great real to it and there are a lot of different parts to the song to keep it from getting boring.
Overall the album isn't great like AFD and it isn't as good as Lies is. It's just there, taking up space. If the band would have gotten a more raw sound and dropped 5 or 6 of the songs this would have helped the album a lot.
