This band hails from Brazil, and this is their demo. Doom/death is their weapon of choice, and they intend on conquering the world with it; or atleast the metal world.
Okay, sorry about that. I think I've been watching too many crappy movies lately.
Nevertheless, Cantas Ad Mortuos are one of the finest bands I've heard of late. I'm afraid I cannot provide you with any information regarding this band, because I couldn't find any information about them on the internet, or maybe I was just too lazy; it doesn't matter really. All you need to know is that this band kicks some serious ass. Full of depressive melodies that are at the forefront, with an almost black metal-ish atmosphere to it on occasions, this demo is a gem. No keyboard work here, the melodies and the atmosphere are constructed wonderfully by the guitars and the hidden bass (hidden because it's hard to hear it it is a demo so naturally the production isn't killer). Normal death metal vocals are supported by some great chanting vocal lines. The band doesn't have a doom/death sound akin to that of My Dying Bride or Serenades era Anathema, instead comparisons are undeniably formed with Katatonia's Dance of The December souls. However, they aren't clones nor are they rip-offs, for they healthily maintain an aura of originality; a feeling of difference
I'd be hard pressed to find much wrong with this demo. The melodies are great, the guitar work is superb, the vocals (especially the sung/chanted parts) are insane (check the sung and growled vocal interplay at the start of the second track), and the drums do their job without fucking up anywhere. A truly recommended release for any doom metal fan.
