Megadeth's latest studio offering is a killer. Their 10th studio record starts off with sort of an odd intro with the sound of a missile shooting down air force one and then a news report reporting that terrorists shot down the plane. That ties in with the albums opening song Blackmail The Universe which is arguably the best song Megadeth has released in a good 8 - 10 years. This record has a fairly political tinge to it with songs like Blackmail The Universe and Kick The Chair. It also features to sort of pointless filler tracks which would barely qualify as song. These are I know Jack and Shadow Of Deth. In the song Back In The Day Dave writes about the early days of metal and what the scene was like and how exciting it was back then. He also takes a chance to bash Metallica on the song Something That I'm Not. He pretty much uses that song to acknowledge how Metallica has become a big corporate juggernaut who have sort of conformed to play a less "metal" type music. Honestly though, Dave couldn't have picked a better album to do this on because The System Has Failed kicks the crap out of St. Anger. The System Has Failed also features a pretty awesome ballad called Tears In A Vial (the only metal ballad with no acoustic guitars). All in all this is the best album Megadeth has done since Youthanasia. It is definitely worth picking up for even the casual Megadeth fan.
Key Tracks: Kick The Chair, Back In The Day and Truth Be Told.
*Note: Die Dead Enough is the first single and video off of the album.
