Toronto Doom Thrashers Goat Horn improve by leaps and bounds with their second release (First on the indie October 32nd Label) Storming The Gates. The album starts with a distorted sounding scream and proceeds to go into a doom laden romp which continues through the first three songs and through most of the fourth. These for songs are very good don't get me wrong but, this songs would have fit in too well with Goat Horn's first release Voyage To Nowhere. Song #5 (which is really just a guitar intro to song #6) is where the album really takes off. The speed laden Fortress Doomed will have any metal fan foaming at the mouth. Plus the fact this Goat Horn isn't even signed will have them on the floor. Back to what I said earlier the rest of the album (for those who weren't paying attention that's song #5 until song #9). This half can't even begin to compare to earlier Goat Horn material. Firstly, it's faster, secondly it's heavier and lastly the guitar riffs are more complex and on that note Brandon Wars has really established his playing on this album. Now don't get me wrong. He's no Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) or Alexi Yaiho (Children Of Bodom) but his solos are quite accomplished for Goat Horns brand of thrash tinged doom metal. I would recommend this to any metal fan save for you Nu-metal BASTARDS!!! (Just kidding) (Note that was a formality) hahaha next review comin' soon so keep your eyes peeled.
