When it comes to Judas Priest one thing is for sure. I will most likely not
go with popular opinion with the rest of the bands fans. Sometimes we'll share
the same opinion like with "Turbo" sucking and "Defenders of
the Faith" being the bands best album (though of course this isn't 100%
of the bands more like 40% of the fans that I'm agreeing with), but on the other
hand I enjoyed every thing the band has done between 1997 and 2002. That includes
all studio albums and live albums. This is something to add to the "Dave
doesn't agree with most Priest fans" pile.
Now as you can see from the score I DO like this album. I just don't think it's
one of the best albums. It's somewhere in the middle for me. When I first got
this album I was let down. Before I heard a single part of this album I had
people telling me it was Judas Priests best album or it was the best album of
all time. So after hearing that my expectations where very high for this album.
I thought this album would take over my life since it is said to be the best
thing since sliced bread. What I got was a solid album with classic Judas Priest
but nothing more. Nothing to make me jizz my pants. Nothing that topped "Defenders",
or "Painkiller". It is better than all the albums Judas Priest released
between those two albums, but that isn't saying much. Songs like "Victims
of Change", "Tyrant". "The Ripper", "Dreamer Deceiver"
and "Genocide" are fantastic songs and for being from the 70's and
on hardly any budget at all they (and the whole album) sound great. It's just
that I think the band has done better after this album.
