Wow! Overkill has once again failed to disappoint me. Over the years bands come and go or stay around and change their style or just flat out suck. But Overkill sticks to their guns and in the end result is mostly a killer album that ends up being one of my favorites of the year. And by going with what's coming out this year it should have a fairly easy time making it either #1 or #2 with me.
"Killbox 13" is Overkills 13th album and their lamest album title. But it's a good thing we don't review an album by its title.
The album kicks off with "Devil By The Tail", a mid paced ass kicker that Overkill has come to love over the last decade. The song isn't bad but it's also not that great. The song really doesn't pick up until the half way point when the double bass kicks in. Lucky for us they keep it up for the last half of the song. Next up is "Damned" which picks up the pace a little bit. It's still not a 100mph headbanger. The chorus is one of my favorites that the band has done.
For the most part this album is mid paced. Fans of their last album should eat this right up. I would have liked to see Overkill put out a 10 full of breakneck songs but what I got was 10 great slower songs. The band has again managed to put out an album with zero filler and zero songs to skip over. For a band that has been around as long as Overkill has it's amazing.
Best tracks: Damned, Until I Die, The Sound of Dying and Unholy
