This was my 2nd Iced Earth album and the one that got me into the band. Before I had only owned "Days of Purgatory" which is a good album but it wasn't something I would listen to a lot. Then one day while at the record store this album caught my eye and I decided to give the band another chance with this album. As soon as I put it in my discman I was hooked. From the opening track "Burning Times" to the "Something Wicked" trilogy. I couldn't stop listening to this album. I even tried to get everyone I knew to listen to this album. Most took to it quite well and went out to buy their own copies.

The songs on here tend to follow a pattern. One powerful track followed by a more mellow track. The pacing can make some who like to have a steady flow to their songs. The songs aren't shockingly different from track to track. There is still a nice flow, it's just not as good as it could be. Grouping a few of the more melodic tracks together, in my opinion, would give it a better flow. Some of the more stand out tracks are "Burning Times", "Disciples of the Lie", My Own Savior" and the Something Wicked ("Prophecy", "Birth of the Wicked", and "The Coming Curse").
