| CD: Megadeth - So Far, So Good... So What | Released: 1988 |
| Review by Dave Elder (FaceInTheSky) | |

This album lands
right in the middle of 2 of Megadeth's classic and loved albums. So when thinking
about the band this album tends to get overlooked by people. This album is dirtier
and more gritty than Peace Sells, but isn't as technical as Rust in Peace. This
album brings in 2 new members to the band. Out are Chris and Gar and in are
Jeff Young on guitar and Chuck Behler on
drums. While not bad musicians, Megadeth could have done better. I think that
if they had kept Chris and Gar then this album would be so much better than
what it is. But hey, this album is still pretty good.
The album starts out with the instrumental "Into The Lungs of Hell" It's a bit slow in the intro, but then it kicks into some great thrash riffs. Next up is "Set The World Afire" which is a thrash attack on your ears. This could have been on either Peace Sells or Rust In Peace, in my opinion. A great song that seems to be misplaces on this album. After that we come to the God awful "Anarchy In The UK" The idiot that made the band record this song instead of "Problems" like the band originally wanted needs to be killed...no wait, he needs to be tied up to a car and dragged for about 10 miles. This is a horrible song and it is even worse as a cover. UGH! Just horrible. "502" can be summed up in one word: Speeding. That song is just about getting into your car and driving fast. The song that follows is "In My Darkest Hour" which is Dave's tribute to his friend, Cliff Burton. When Dave heard about Cliffs death he sat down and wrote the music to this song in just a matter of minutes. The lyrics however are about a failed relationship Dave had in the past. A woman that never cared for him and was never there. "Lair" is another personal song, this one is about Chris Poland, who was fired from the band for stealing their guitars and amps to help feed his drug problem.
Overall this is a pretty solid album. Being put between 2 of the best albums in metal history makes it hard to stand out though.
Final Rating: 3/5
