As if the reviews that I have already written weren't enough to garner controversy and raised eyebrows, here I am submitting another one that's bound to send me to the back of the 'kvlt and tr00' bus. This is one of those albums that every music fan regardless of musical taste, regardless of how h@rdc0r they are, MUST listen to at least once in their lifetime. There, I said it. I remember watching South Park, and out of nowhere Robert Smith pops out and one of the last things uttered in the episode is, 'Disintegration is the greatest album, ever.' This just goes to show how highly revered this album is, I suppose. If Matt and Trey have thrown it in there, it's good enough for me! Robert Smith's soulful yet almost pathetically whiny voice fits this album perfectly. The synths, the percussions and the simplistic basslines create a mournful club type of atmosphere, and I suppose this is where the genius comes in. The basic rhythms and catchy melodies makes this a real masterpiece. Hits such as 'Pictures of You', 'Love Song' and the title track are all extremely good in their own right, but it is 'Lullaby' which takes the cake. I remember that was the first song that I ever heard by The Cure, and that was when they broke up back in 99 or 98 or something. I remember overplaying the song to death after I heard it the first time. I'd go to sleep tapping my fingers to the extremely contagious drumbeat.
This concludes an extremely short and simple review. There’s really not much more one can say about ‘Disintegration’. It is simply an extremely accessible album that should be listened to by everyone.
