INTERVIEWS
Band Name: Myrmidon
Interview With: Vocalist: Chris Jones
Interviewed by Hussein Sherazi (MetalSaviour)

As a vocalist who would you say has influenced you?

Vocally there are a lot of different influences. In terms of metal I gotta go with Dani from Cradle Of Filth. He's so creative with how he delivers his lines. I also like Tomas Lindberg from At The Gates for his tortured sound. There's Johan Lindstrand from The Crown. He's incredible on the Deathrace King album. Marco Aro from The Haunted, basically the Swedish scene. You gotta love Tom Araya and Bruce Dickenson.

What are your influences as a band?

Well put it this way. In the past we've covered Slayer, The Haunted, At The Gates, In Flames and The Crown.

Tell us about your new album. When is it being released?

We're going to be recording an album sometime in January. It'll have 10-11 new songs and we're aiming for a more full sound than our demo. The songs are pretty intense and if you liked our demo we think you'll like what we've got in the works. We're hoping to release it as early as we can in 2004.

You guys have made somewhat of a large impact on the Toronto underground metal scene, wouldn't you say?

Well we're just getting going in the Toronto scene and we're pleased with the shows we've had. We would like to have bigger crowds, but we've had good responses from our shows. We're starting to notice a small Myrmidon fan base forming and we'll keep working at getting more exposure while not sacrificing our music.

What do you think has/will be the pinnacle in your career as a musician?

The pinnacle would be being able to have Myrmidon as my only job so I could focus 100% of my waking hours toward this band. But if that never happens I'm happy just being involved in this band and the metal we spew forth.

What's your favourite stuff to play?

We'll we've already mentioned who we like to cover. In terms of our own stuff I guess right now the new songs that'll be out on the album are the songs that excite me the most.

Where is your favourite place to play live?

Anywhere in Belleville. The kids there go fucken nuts at shows, crazy mosh pits and good turn outs. But the city banned shows cause too many underage kids were getting drunk. Some people tried to go get us back for another show there but it was denied by the city. So I guess you could say it was our favourite place to play.

What does Myrmidon mean?

Let's just say Myrmidon means we'll be Metal's faithful warriors.

What is the craziest thing that you've done as a band?

I guess that would have to be certain members of the band streaking a local Tim Horton's stone sober.

In today's modern metal scene, who would you blame for the shitty new wave of bands exposing themselves on TV?

We don't want to name names and someday get in a pissing match with some band. But there are definitely a couple bands which we all know about that made it big and the music industry in all its glory flooded the market with similar type bands to bleed the market dry. Looking back you can see early signs of this modern day shit starting in early 90's and as I said a couple bands made it simpler and easier to listen to and the music industry did its thing. If you want good metal on a whole, you gotta look to other continents it seems or look deep underground.

Any thank yous or fuck yous to give out? Heh.

I guess thank yous should go out to all those who've inspired us and to everyone who have helped us and will help us in the future. We take our band seriously while having fun along the way and we wouldn't be here without help and we won't get where we wanna go without help. We'd also like to thank our present and future fans. So I guess thanks to all those involved. I don't wanna get into an Oscar acceptance type thank you list.
