INTERVIEWS
Band Name: Utuk Xul
Interview With: Guitarist, Salman Mumtaz & Drummer/Vocalist: Essam Siddiqui
Interviewed by Hussein Sherazi (MetalSaviour)

Hussein: Thanks for agreeing to this interview, Salman and Essam.

So firstly, tell us about Utuk Xul?

Salman: Theres not much to say about utuk xul at this point.
its just an experimental project and basically our own form of self expression.

It could go on for next 10 years or maybe next 10 days...
theres nothing significant I can mention right now perhaps theres not much we want to talk about either.

Essam: Thats true, utukxul is our means of self-expression through music. there's not much to say about it, but.. hmm.. its just something we both fit-in well together, and it may go on even longer than expected.

Hussein: Do you have any other active projects right now?

Salman: Well, nothing in particular. me and essam work on different stuff on and off, but for now we want to concentrate on this, take things slowly as they come and make something meaningful out of it.

Essam: Well, I dont think there are any other on-going projects that I could mention here. But for now, we just want to work on UtukXul. Time is of the essence! We'd rather spend 5 years on releasing something meaningful than spending a few hours on just 5 songs!

Hussein: What are your musical influences?

Salman: Musical influences..music wise, as I said this is experimental so there could be a lot of changes in plans and music depending on what might strike us with its true meaning. Lyrical content is abstract, sometimes about our own crap in life.... sometimes occult related.

Essam: Concerning utukxul, the musical influences can be many and even none. Depending on what strikes us the most, the lyrics, music or the atmosphere of certain musical piece we hear, even something out of the fucking extraordinary, could be anything!

Hussein: What are your plans for the future as far as music is concerned?

Salman: Theres nothing in particular I can disclose right now.. we're still working on the songs and see how it all winds up.

Essam : We have a few ideas in mind, let see how things take shape.

Hussein: If you had to tour with any group, which group would that be?

Salman: I'm not quite intrested in live shows and touring.

Essam: Heheh.

Hussein: What's the best gig you've ever been to?

Salman: I've seen a lot of bands and most of them put on great shows so I can't really name one band here. I've seen opeth a few times and they are simply amazing when it comes to live stuff. Other than that mayhem performed real well on the Milwaukee Metalfest a few years ago. Fog, another band from Indiana are amazing when they play live.
Other than that, Bloodstorm, Novembers Doom, Enslaved, Katatonia, Windir etc.

Essam : None. to be honest. But I would love to see a few. Well most of the bands that I want to see live dont even perform or have disbanded. Heh, so can't say.

Hussein: What do you think about metal today?

Salman: True metal still exists and there are still a lot of bands making true and honest music.

Essam: Indeed.

Hussein: Now playing?

Salman:
Darkthrone - Soulside Journey
Darkthrone - Ravishing Grimness
Xasthur - Rehersal
Xasthur - Nocturnal Poisoning
Xasthur - Suicide In Dark Serenity
Abyssic Hate - Depression (Demo)
Opeth - Damnation

Essam:
Maniac Butcher - Barbarians
Burzum - Burzum & Aske
Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Nargaroth - Orke (Demo)

Hussein: That's about it guys, anything you'd like to add at this point?

Salman : Again, like I mentioned theres not a whole lot to say about anything at this point. Thanks for the interview and greetings to those who remain in the spirit of true and honest metal. Hail! \m/

Essam : Thanks for the interview, hussein. I would just like to salute all the comrades that are still true to the cause!
