| INTERVIEWS | |
| Band Name: | Orange Goblin |
| Interview With: | Drummer, Chris Turner |
| Interviewed by Hussein Sherazi (MetalSaviour) | |
Hussein: What are some of your favourite bands?
Chris: I'm into all sorts. Noise like old Britcore band Heresy or yanks 'Born Against' and Rorsach, quiet stuff like Slint and very much Zepplin.
Hussein: Where are your favourite places to play live?
Chris: Places with free beer and Japan.
Hussein: What is your favourite track to play live?
Chris: Changes every gig depending on how drunk/knackered I am.
Hussein: What was the most recent gig you played?
Chris: It was a while back, we've been writing and recording again recently.
Hussein: Tell us about a typical day at the studio.
Chris: Set up, drink, play, drink, play some more, sit around, eat...the usual.
Hussein: What do you think has been your greatest achievement as a band?
Chris: Getting to play abroad (all over Europe, the States and Japan) and playing with some super cool bands.
Hussein: If and when Orange Goblin will end, what would you like to be remembered for?
Chris: Not being shit.
Hussein: What do you feel has been the pinnacle of your career?
Chris: Hard to say, sometimes it's the small things that mean the most.
Hussein: I've heard your split with Electric Wizard, how was it like working with them?
Chris: We've played with them a few times, sometimes it's cool, sometimes it's not.
Hussein: Do you know them well?
Chris: Did, haven't hung around for a while, don't think we're in their good books, they think we're sell outs.
Hussein: Describe your music in a sentence.
Chris: It's the aural equivalent of downing a pint. you either love it or it makes you feel sick and gives you a headache.
Hussein: What's been on your playlist lately?
Chris: Mastodon, High on Fire, Clutch, Deep Purple, Fugazi.
Hussein: You have a reputation of getting blitzed, are you actually sober when you record stuff?
Chris: We're a lot better these days, a bit more professional, though we've always taken recording a bit more serious.
Hussein: Collectively, who are the biggest influences on your sound?
Chris: Not telling, or you'll all sound like us.
Hussein: What is the craziest thing you've done as a band?
Chris: Probably the Monkey Panic video, quite a bizarre experience.
Hussein: How was it like working with John Garcia?
Chris: Cool, though he snores real loud!
Hussein: With guitarist Pete O'Malley leaving the band, what exactly does that do for the Goblin sound?
Chris: Strips it down a bit, makes it a bit more Rock and makes Martyn work harder.
Hussein: What kind of a mood is Orange Goblin in right now, with Coup De Grace it seemed like you were in more of a punk mood. So for the next album, what's the plan?
Chris: Kind of a cross between Coup and Big Black, remember we're a guitarist short these days.
Hussein: How about throwing out some live tracks someday? Ever thought about doing a live album?
Chris: Got some live stuff recorded, maybe some bonus tracks someday, but I doubt a whole album.
Hussein: Beer, or more Beer?
Chris: …and whisky.
Hussein: Thanks Chris!
Chris: No probs.
